Endless Wire
For the expanded edition of *Endless Wire*, The Who add seven live tracks from their performance at Lyon in 2006. While hardcore Who fans who insist on Keith Moon’s presence or at least John Entwistle’s need not apply, the performances do show Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend leading an able cast through a solid mix of cool Who tracks. They particularly show fire for “Who Are You,” “The Seeker,\" and “Relay.” Even “Mike Post Theme” from *Endless Wire* has the anthemic power of vintage Who, even if Daltrey reveals that he’s mortal on “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” The remaining album—the first Who album of new material in 24 years—has highpoints such as Townshend’s acoustic “You Stand by Me” and Daltrey’s vocal prowess giving “We Got a Hit” (also here in an extended version) showing you can never count out aging rockers.
Roughly 20 years past the release of a record called Who's Last-- and four years after the 2002 death of bassist John Entwistle-- Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey return with an album that's split between sounding like a museum piece and sounding remarkably true to their younger selves.
It's best to be left wanting more, and in this case we can only dream of the album 'Endless Wire' could've been.
