Hot Motion
The British psych-rockers’ third album boasts studied musicianship and strong arrangements—and very little else.
At A time when standalone singles are king, Temples’ new drop is deliciously complex as well as cohesive. The third album from the Kettering-formed trio dabbles with darker themes driven by primal instincts. Title track Hot Motion sets the tone in a song about “the tensions of desire, dreams and nightmares”.
After an album (2017's Volcano) where the band stretched their psychedelic approach to add synthesizers and some different song structures, Temples return to basics on their third record, Hot Motion.
It’s been two years worth waiting for as with their third studio album release Hot Motion (their debut on ATO Records), psychedelic midnight riders Temples have capsuled the sparkling freshness of their Sun Structures debut, the high-flight of Volcano and then, thread by paisley golden thread, have unpicked, re-worked and then splendidly showcased a garment of recorded hypnotisms - all wrapped up tightly in some transcendent tissue to be kept pristine for years to come.
These days, if a band makes it as far as a third full-length album it can be counted as something of a triumph in and of itself.
