…And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness
The highly anticipated second album '...and they have escaped the weight of darkness' will herald another intense year for Ólafur Arnalds, with the album being accompanied by a world tour starting in China. It will bring him to the UK for his first performance with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra, conducted by André de Ridder (Nico Muhly/Damon Albarn) on July 1 at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. The 23-year old Icelandic composer continues his mission to lure an indie-generation of pop and rock fans into an emotive world of beguiling electronic chamber music and delicate classical arrangements.
The young Icelandic composer who has toured with Sigur Rós continues to develop and refine his string-and-piano-heavy sound.
At an age when most young men are still trying to decide between grad school and the night shift at Denny's, Olafur Arnalds has already made a name for himself as a musical maverick who skirts the edges of the classical, rock, electronic, and avant-garde worlds with enthusiastic ease, a Nico Muhly with a higher tolerance for cold weather, if you will.
