The last mixtape YoungBoy released before beginning his 2016 prison sentence, *Before I Go Reloaded* highlights the Baton Rouge rapper’s emotionally raw storytelling over pensive, quintessentially Southern beats. “When my grandma died, I jumped off the porch and started hustling,” he says on “So Long,” a document of the hardships that led him to a breakthrough moment. On “Dream,” the beat drops out and explodes back in to emphasize YoungBoy’s lyrics about those gone too soon.
