After the irresistible if uncompromising “Ooouuu” made her a hitmaker, Brooklyn rapper Young M.A could easily have tried to replicate that formula or gone a far more commercial route. Instead, she doubled down on her real talk and brash rhyming to deliver 2019’s unflinchingly raw and lyrically cutting *Herstory in the Making*. Reprising his role as producer of that debut album’s shimmering single “BIG,” Mike Zombie handles the beats for the bulk of its brief follow-up *Red Flu*. While “Quarantine Party” speaks to the contemporaneous pandemic during which the EP dropped, tracks like “Dripset” and the brooding “Trap or Cap” speak to her more evergreen concerns.
