Instead of harping on the inconveniences he’s endured—the Memphis MC has been shot and shot at, releasing projects with nose-thumbing titles like *Bulletproof* and *N\*ggas Get Shot Everyday*—Young Dolph is focused on being an example for others looking to overcome rough origin stories. He wastes no time detailing the specifics of his own on *Role Model*’s opener, “Black Queen,” an ode to his parents’ resilience (and an acknowledgment of their shortcomings). On the whole, *Role Model* is a celebration of life lived contentedly, boasting brand-appropriate features from longtime weed enthusiast Snoop Dogg (“I Think I Can Fly”) and Migos member Offset (“Break the Bank”). But it’s “How U Luv Dat” that best exemplifies how, as someone whose success grows with each release, Dolph is proudest that he is simply still around to enjoy it.
