Already known to Mexican audiences as an actress, Ximena Sariñana brought her theatrical style to her singer/songwriter debut: She plays a \'50s housewife on the title track, which sends up women of that era\'s quest for perfection. But much of her elegant jazz-pop is more personal: On \"Gris,\" a lyric about depression is paired to a gorgeously downcast tune. The language barrier shouldn’t discourage any fans of laidback pop—especially those with an affinity for Norah Jones or Nellie McKay.
