Jurowski Conducts Stravinsky, Vol. 1 (Live)

These live Stravinsky recordings date mainly from 2018, when Vladimir Jurowski was the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal conductor, and they’re typical of the electrifying results he was capable of achieving in concert. Both main works, *The Firebird* and *The Rite of Spring*, mingle a fantastical sense of poetry with thunderous virtuosity in the big ensemble moments. The album also contains some early Stravinsky rarities—the *Symphony in E-Flat*, *The Faun and the Shepherdess*, *Scherzo fantastique*, and *Funeral Song*. All are fascinating and show tantalizing evidence of a composer on the path to greatness.
