Early Hours (DJ Mix)
If his latest project under the pseudonym Vegyn—the 75-track *Don’t Follow Me Because I’m Lost Too!!*—is any indication, Joe Thornalley is one of electronic music’s most restlessly creative producers. On that mixtape, the Frank Ocean collaborator (and former Apple Store employee, we’ll have you know!) shows his fluency with everything from trap and ’90s-style glitch to video-game sounds and lo-fi club music. His contribution to the laidback Early Hours DJ mix series is intended to kick off your day in an easy way. “However, I think it works across a lot of different contexts,” the UK-born Thornalley tells Apple Music. “I tried to lean into the tracks that bring me solace.” Those tracks run the gamut of gentle sounds, whether light vocal ambient excursions (Laraaji, Arthur Russell, Beverly Glenn-Copeland), post-rock (To Rococo Rot, Broadcast), filter house (Daft Punk), or Brazilian pop (Milton Nascimento). “All these tracks help me to relax when times are tough or stressful,” he adds. “You can tune in or tune out. Either way, these songs have a positive impact on my well-being, so I hope that’s felt when people get the chance to listen.”
