Merry Christmas, Y’all
Thomas Rhett offers up a holiday gift with a four-track EP featuring the country superstar’s favorite Christmas tunes. Rhett’s well-honed, sneakily chameleonic bass voice lends itself well to holiday fare, as his range can incorporate elements of rock, soul, and pop in addition to a country twang. Opener “Winter Wonderland” is updated with a laidback, almost beachy arrangement, with a playful croon from Rhett. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is outfitted with strings, brass, and plenty of bombast, and features one of Rhett’s finer vocals, holiday or otherwise. He delivers a faithful version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and closes the project with a swinging take on “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” shouting, “Christmas time in Tennessee, y’all” at the track’s start. *Merry Christmas, Y’all* is a quick listen, but nonetheless a solid entry into the country Christmas canon.
