Swim Against the Tide
On her third EP, the mesmerizing singer/producer inches toward pop. Lauded as one of indie electronica’s most adventurous voices, Amber Bain layers distorted vocals over expansive soundscapes for a sound that’s both soothing and skewed. This release, while a step toward classic pop, maintains Bain’s outsider edge. “It’s rather depressive,” she told Zane Lowe about “Good Side In,” the lead single. “I love pop music but I also like weird music. A blend of the two is a perfect thing.”
Building from diamond-strong foundations, Amber Bain's next step is even more experimental and impressive.
Although this EP is reminiscent of The Japanese House's earlier ‘heartbreak and regret’ material, it’s surprisingly upbeat, catchy and bold.
