*Streets of Compton* is the musical companion to the rapper’s A&E documentary mini-series. Game gives a personal tour of his hometown, revealing a city under siege as well as the residents’ perseverance and pride. Both can be felt in city anthems “Support Compton,” “Like Me,” and “For the Homies.” The album booms with west coast funk and songs like “Hit the News” and “Roped Off” offer sights you won’t see on the Compton Chamber of Commerce website.

The soundtrack to the The Game's three-part documentary series Streets of Compton feels like a missed opportunity for the rapper to embrace his comfort zone.

Supporting a three-part television documentary series that bears its name, Streets of Compton comes off as a street release from the Game, running with a guest list that lacks superstars (Problem, Boogie, and Payso are the biggest names here) and a small production team that includes Bongo, DeUno, and League of Starz.

If 2015 was the year Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar led a triumphant parade down the streets of Compton, 2016 is when the Game comes along, a year late and a dollar short, trying not to trip over the discarded confetti while he waves a big sign saying "Me Too!"Streets of Compton feels a cynical attempt to benefit from the massive interest in Compton, a contractually obliged soundtrack album for an A&E documentary series of the same name.
