Sound In Silence is proud to announce the addition of The Declining Winter to its roster of artists, presenting his new album entitled Endless Scenery. The Declining Winter is the solo project of Richard Adams, founder member, alongside his brother Chris, of the legendary Leeds band Hood. While Hood is currently on a long term hiatus since 2005, Richard Adams has focused on various musical projects, mainly recording under the moniker of The Declining Winter but also as member of Memory Drawings and Great Panoptique Winter, who released their great debut album on Sound In Silence earlier this year. To date The Declining Winter has released four albums, Goodbye Minnesota (Rusted Rail, 2008), Haunt The Upper Hallways (Home Assembly Music, 2009), Lost Songs (Sanity Muffin, 2013) and Home For Lost Souls (Home Assembly Music, 2015). Since 2007 and under the same moniker, he has also released one remix album, many EPs and singles and one split EP with Isnaj Dui, on labels such as Misplaced Music, Mobeer, Secret Furry Hole, Monopsone and Rural Colours or self-released in limited handmade editions. On Endless Scenery he presents nine new wonderful tracks, ranging widely from bedroom lo-fi pop to pastoral post-rock. Hushed, drenched in reverb, vocals, loops of nostalgic guitars, largely acoustic ones, piano, melancholic organ lines, droning ambient synths and minimal drum beats, combine with jazz infused percussion, chiming bells, field recordings and samples of echoing hammered dulcimer and gentle violins, played by Joel Hanson and Sarah Kemp (Lanterns On The Lake, Last Harbour) respectively, both Richard’s bandmates in Memory Drawings, to form a quietly impressive album, full of muffled melodies, great warmth, wistful melancholy and pastoral organic feel. The finishing touch on the wonderfully rustic sound of Endless Scenery was applied by the mastering of George Mastrokostas (aka Absent Without Leave), with whom Richard had collaborated again back in 2010, on his latest full-length album Faded Photographs. The beautiful atmosphere of Endless Scenery will instantly sound familiar and comforting to all fans of Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis, Disco Inferno, Labradford, Low and of course Hood. This is a limited edition of 450 (a first edition of 300 which is now sold out and a second edition of 150) handmade and hand-numbered collectible copies, packaged in a lovely hand-stamped white recycled cardboard envelope with the front cover image printed on a polaroid style photo paper and an insert with the tracklist and credits. It also comes bundled with a download code coupon and a Sound In Silence card.
