Psychedelic Rock
Neo-Psychedelia
Noteable
Size, we should remember, is not everything. Running to just 28 minutes and recorded at a sprint in under two weeks, this third release from the precocious Merseyside psych-rockers deserves to be regarded as more than a mere throat-clearing exercise. Yes, it’s determinedly experimental but there are plenty of jazzy, loose-limbed treasures—just see the languid Baggy groove of “Grey Harpoon” and the propulsive Cavern-ready krautrock on “Migraine”—amid the rough studio sketches and ribald B-movie skits.
Released less than half a year after Magic and Medicine, Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker is another eclectic and accomplished patchwork of tantalizing neo-psychedelia from the prolific lads the Coral.
