Chinese Perfume
from Mathieu Duval's 'My Record Collection' website: Of all the recent releases by Sunburned to have come out in 2008, this is their tightest effort yet. The album is definitely more homogenous regardless off how extreme things sometimes get. Intimate Woodwork starts the album off with a bang as bizarre assorted noises come at us from all sides (imagine John Zorn's Locus Solus). Things become slightly Vibracathedral-esque on Remote Dickhead Parachute, and from then on we are pushed and shoved, back and forth as the Sunburned ones seem fit: fucked up snippets of noise (Dogfood, Baseball), old-school stoner jams (Night Exam, Chinese Perfume) and some of the most psychedelic numbers since The Secret In Disguise (Iron Language Captive is easily my favorite track on the album). The album might sound all-over-the-place at first, but there's this indiscernible theme and flow that makes this a smooth listen after repeated listens. Chinese Perfume is 2008's first must own Sunburned release!
