The mixtape was released in November 2019 on Subculture's inprint 'Twisted Hearts Records'. Subculture on the title of the mixtape and inspiration behind it said, “I DREAM OF EVERYTHING was born from my obsession with dreams and thinking more deeply about the connection between memories, dreams, fears and reality. It all started with my song ‘Rise No More’ which was inspired by that thin line between logical end of the world thinking and existential depression. I’ve kept a dream journal for many years and sometimes feel like the haziness of dreams is just our memory being hazy, I mean I have memories of real events that are hazy as fuck and memories of dreams that feel more real than real events from my life! Either way, I think even if it is just your mind creating imagery, it’s significant and I’ve definitely allowed my dreams to help guide me in life.” ‘I DREAM OF EVERYTHING’ features singles ‘The River Bend’ feat. Rachel Chinouriri, ‘Gunning For Fees’ feat. Goya Gumbani & Grand Pax, ‘Glitter Stream Stars’ feat. Tertia May and ‘The Chase’ feat. Rachel Chinouriri which have between them appeared on the Rinse FM A-list as well as getting spins from DJ Target and Jamz Supernova on 1XTRA, Julie Adenuga on Beats1 and Huw Stephens on Radio 1. Subculture on the process behind its creation: “I created the mixtape pretty much across a 3 year period, experimenting with a lot of new methods and sounds. As a producer I’m a lot more excited by process than gear. I write and produce for so many other artists but I wanted this to be entirely my vision and based on what I think works. The idea was to wed my love for 50s/60s/70s Psych, Soul and Jazz with beats that sound like they’re from the future. Basically distorted guitars, soulful bass, crazy vocal hooks and really overly syncopated drums but all with a very specific classic sound.” As an artist, Hip Hop is central to Subculture’s sound, but he also draws influence from Post-Punk and Jazz. Having had to move his studio several times in the last year, Subculture coined his method as ‘nomadic production’. Drawing on the culture of hospitality central to his middle Eastern/North African roots, no matter where Subculture sets up shop he puts maximum focus on creating a welcoming environment for his collaborators, allowing him to develop productive working relationships with the likes of Chelou, Grand Pax, Goya Gumbani and Tertia May.
