Cool school saxman Stan Getz’s 1976 quartet comprised some heavy hitters: pianist Joanne Brackeen, bassist Clint Houston, and drummer Billy Hart. But the four never entered a studio together, and it took 40 years for this live recording to see release. Getz’s lyrical lines are as potent as ever, yet he’s not afraid to let Brackeen’s passionate statements or Hart’s poetic percolation challenge his dominance, whether on the lambent Wayne Shorter ballad “Infant Eyes” or the slinky bossa nova syncopations of Antônio Carlos Jobim’s “O Grande Amor.”
