Only Lovers Left Alive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As a film director with a strong minimalist vision, Jim Jarmusch also values soundtrack music that’s in sync with his visual strengths. His 2014 film *Only Lovers Left Alive* observes the immortal lives of vampires in love and their fascination with loud, feedback-embalmed rock ’n’ roll. This score features Jarmusch’s glorious trio SQURL and Dutch composer-lutist Jozef Van Wissem riffing through dark ambient pieces that value sparse orchestral touches, unnerving, disembodied vocals, and guitar distortion alongside an occasional underground rocker (“Please Feel Free to P\*ss in the Garden”). “Spooky Action at a Distance” lives up to its title. Yasmine Hamden’s “Hal” casts its own spell.
