Apple Music Home Session: Squid
Squid’s work is rarely done. As one of British indie music’s most intrepid bands, the five-piece is always exploring new ways to record and make music—and that sometimes means reworking existing songs. This Apple Music Home Session is no exception, inspiring reimagined versions of three tracks on debut album *Bright Green Field*. “\[Recording this session\], we discovered that the album recording will never be the final product,” synth-and-strings specialist Arthur Leadbetter tells Apple Music. “They’re all really fun songs, especially for a live set. We’re always trying to find new interpretations of the tracks and, as a result, there is a new and fun version of ‘Pamphlets’ for your ears here.” Even in lockdown, the band have found inventive new ways to reconfigure their sound. “The period hasn’t changed us as a band,” says Leadbetter. “We have definitely used more found sounds though. And \[with this session\], we discovered that a bicycle can serve as a very good replacement for a percussion stand.”
