The Manchester garage-punks step up on their wild and winning full-length debut. Led by the propulsive, fuzzed-out “City,” *Tell Me If You Like To* rounds up some of the band’s previous singles (including “Detroit” and the driving “Who Are You?”) while adding a noirish new dimension to their sound. You can hear it on the \'50s-style slow dance of “Take Me Away” and the stomping “It’s So Dark,” which taps into a history of punk-inflected pub-rock that also includes The Clash and The Stranglers. Most surprising is the dreamy, drifting “Heaven,” which breaks up the album’s scuzz like fresh air.
