Frequently Flying

Emphasizing the emotion of a track as much as his own rhythmic wizardry, Sonny Fodera’s third album is an exercise in emotive songwriting and filling dancefloors. On “You & I”, house handclaps and springy synths support but never swallow Janai’s yearning vocal hook, while Richard Walters transmits stinging heartbreak through the disco-funk and deep house of “Promises”. Best of all is “Recollections”, its woozy electro-soul and haunting vocal hook evoking lovelorn late nights (and Fodera’s love of SBTRKT).
