After a few years of bubbling under the national radar, Brooklyn drill has grown beyond its regional scene to become one of the defining hip-hop sounds of 2020. Just weeks after featuring on his frequent collaborator Sheff G’s *One and Only*, Sleepy Hallow steps out on his own again with this distinctive effort. Building on the unexpectedly melodic sound of *DON’T SLEEP*, his follow-up *Sleepy for President* offers a refreshing take on his borough’s sound that largely bypasses the suffocating darkness of his peers’ UK production preferences. Instead, his songs like “6am in NY” and “Bmh” burst from the shadows to reveal a thoughtful, if tormented, MC coming to terms with his reality. In addition to three guest spots from Sheff G, including a foreboding verse on “Don’t Panic,” he links with Fivio Foreign for “Baddie Betty Boop” and with Jay Critch on the street ballad “Nauseous.”
