Vicious Circles
Whether it\'s Sinjin Hawke adding eerie textures to Kanye West’s “Wolves,” or Zora Jones scrambling drums with Chicago footwork innovator Jlin, these Barcelona producers have shown that they\'re more concerned with deconstructing club music than indulging four-to-the-floor-thirsting dancers. On their debut EP as a duo, they dab bass, beats, and synths in an almost painterly fashion. Compositions like “God” and “Source of Conflict” are so heavily imbued with warped samples and ping-ponging percussion that they thrum with dark energy. But it\'s the songs\' constant unpredictability—and a surface tension that just won’t break—that keeps your ears on edge.
In their latest joint release, Kanye producer Sinjin Hawke and Jlin collaborator Zora Jones combine human voices and digital processing to manifest a seamless fusion of flesh and code.
