Live in Williamsburg
Shuggie Otis penned the 1977 Brothers Johnson hit “Strawberry Letter 23” and in 1974 released his cult classic album *Inspiration/Information*, which David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label reissued in 2001. This resurgence of interest in Otis’ career led to his family joining the fun. His first-ever live album—recorded at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, N.Y.—was coproduced by Shuggie’s son Lucky and features a band that includes Shuggie’s son Eric on guitar and his brother Nick on drums. The performances are professional and inspired, like a step back into a ’70s nightclub with some of the finest smooth soul sounds emanating from the stage.
