Pacing is everything as Shinedown deliver a deftly programmed sequence of alt-metal snarl and brooding ballads. “The Dream” is a textbook slab of funky, Soundgarden-style heft, while “I Dare You” is a rousing showcase for Brent Smith’s fervent roar. The riffs are, of course, thick and muscular all throughout.
