Alternative R&B Synthpop
Noteable

After emerging in 2015 with the synth-pop EP *Shivers*—which earned praise from Pharrell on his Beats 1 show, OTHERtone—British producer/DJ SG Lewis embarked on a more conceptual project. *Dusk, Dark, Dawn*, a three-part series of mini-LPs, commemorates the different phases of a night out with friends: pregame anticipation, dance-floor euphoria, after-hours bliss. The EPs were released about six months apart, culminating in this collection of twinkly, hopeful bedroom pop that evokes a pastel sunrise. Lewis is especially feature-friendly and packs each bundle with cool-kid guests—AlunaGeorge and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs among them and Toulouse are a few. On *Dawn*, he links back up with indie star Clairo (whom he’d collaborated with on 2018’s “Better”) and puts a meditative, mechanical spin on HONNE’s late-night soul (“Overdose”).
