The Line of Best Fit 7/10 On this evidence, the Arcade Fire and Belle Orchestre violinist may have to get used to not sharing the spotlight.
The Skinny 4/5 Best known as violinist in Arcade Fire but having also supplied her talents to Bell Orchestre and The Luyas, Sarah Neufeld’s debut solo album is a natural fit for the Constellation Records roster (home of Godspeed et al). Across Hero Brother’s ten compositions – each consisting almost exclusively of layered violin playing – her often avant-garde instrumentals prove nuanced and haunting, triggering unexpectedly intense emotional responses from a minimalist setup.
Under The Radar 7.0/10 As the "main" violinist (Marika Shaw is absent in studio, as is multi-instrumentalist Owen Pallett on tour) in Arcade Fire, Sarah Neufeld is a central player in the band's enormous, cinematic sound.
