Detroit Trap
Gangsta Rap
Noteable
The most consistently entertaining voice in rap’s most consistently underrated region—Detroit, where the rappers sound like comic book supervillains and the beats evoke ‘80s action movie soundtracks—is the inimitable Sada Baby, the scene’s gleefully weird antagonist. *Skuba Sada 2* doesn’t have a hit as undeniable as 2018’s “Bloxk Party,” but his freewheeling bars are as sharp and funny as ever, even when he’s talking about, uhh, murdering you. On “Slide,” he rides the chaotic, Gap Band-sampling beat like it’s a bucking bronco, and on “Off White Whoop,” he drops one-liners like “I say uppercut ’em, knock the coins out ’em, Super Mario.”
