Electronic Glitch

To me, 2020 is science fiction. I never thought I’d live this long….but here I am. I also swore I wouldn’t make a record that referenced this pandemic. But it is happening, so I just let it in. These tracks were recorded in a stream of consciousness in quarantine at the Pullman hotel Brisbane Airport. I wouldn’t have made these tracks if I wasn’t alone for 14 days (anthropologically bizarre situation) in what I came to call my ‘plush prison.’ It would be ridiculous to call what I experienced ‘suffering’ but it was the most extreme solitude I’d experienced thus far. I had with me a mental health machine. A 6U modular (and Korg SQ1 sequencer). These pieces represent, as all tracks do to me, a very particular moment and a very particular state of mind. Over the years I have come to understand the composition of electronic music as sculpture with voltage. It’s a plastic medium and I like to think of the sensation of hearing as a type of feeling that is more muscular than ethereal (which it is in its essence). So these tracks are carvings if you like. Peaks and troughs of electromagnetic energy coaxed into an order that made sense at the time. -- Robin Fox
