‘The ReVe Festival’ Day 1
Since their 2014 formation, the high-concept K-pop juggernauts have made a point of never having to settle on just one style; even the group’s name is a symbol of versatility, with “red” representing their bright, bubbly pop sensibilities and “velvet” their sleeker, sultrier side. As you might’ve guessed from the EP cover’s hyper-color carnival, *\'The ReVe Festival\' Day 1* dips into electro-pop maximalism. Lead single “Zimzalabim” is a rollercoaster of trippy EDM synths and marching-band drums, overwhelming in the best way. Elsewhere, though, the five-piece return to the confident pop-R&B that’s established them as one of Korea’s coolest girl groups: The slinky “Sunny Side Up!” is the kind of jam Ariana Grande might be making were she reborn a K-pop idol.
