Thirty-eight early tracks from the Virginian grindcore band — made up of cuts from *Split With Orchid* and *Demo*, both from 1997, and their first \"full-length,\" *Explosions In Ward 6*, from 1998; *38 Counts Of Battery* is every bit as punishing as the title suggests. With a set-list of songs ranging from 20 seconds to one minute (with the sole exception being Carcass and Dark Angel covers and an exhausting 6-minute workout called, \"Pixie\") marked by Scott Hull\'s cyclone-like guitars and the absolutely unhinged vocals of J.R. Hayes, Pig Destroyer is an extreme metal band among extreme metal bands.  As is the case with just about all of Pig Destroyer\'s music, the songs rush by like bullets from a machine gun and the whole thing is over in under an hour.

Virginia's extreme sound nihilists Pig Destroyer deliver savage grindcore that is both intentionally confrontational, and thoroughly pummeling. 38 Counts of Battery is an intense register of the band's work, including the remastered Explosions in Ward 6 album, tracks from the highly sought-after (and sold out) split with Isis, their scalding demo, and much more.
