On their first album in half a decade, Steve Hartlett and his reunited band of fuzz-rockers turn up both the overdrive and the emotion, fortifying tender songs with muscular squall.

The opening seconds of Ovlov's second album TRU let everyone know right away that the band haven't toned down their guitar attack; the overloaded tones come flowing like lava out of the speakers and fill the ear canal with pure distortion and majestically fuzzy overtones.

While it doesn't always succeed when it comes to standing out from its peers, TRU is an impressively fleshed out record

In the five years since Ovlov's last studio album, 2013's Am, the Northeastern quartet have developed into a modern cult, mythologizing themselves in the process of embracing their own outsider tendencies.

Ovlov create powerful distortion in our review of their new album 'Tru' but it's how they use this fuzz that defines them as great musicians.
