Happy Endings
On their sophomore album, the Nashville band delivers well-crafted, whimsical country songs with big hooks, wisecracks, and scores of metaphors. Thanks to frontman Matthew Ramsey’s slick cadence, every line sounds like a flirt. “How’s about some high heel, high top, pump \'em up, flip-flop/Heads up, lucky penny loafer on a sidewalk/Patent leather, blue suede, tailor-made, whatever you like,” he coos without missing a beat. “If you’re shoe shopping, try me on for size.” But even that’s no match for the electric “A Girl Is a Gun,” a witty word to the wise about the powers of women.
