On their third album in just four years, Swedish doom divers Monolord saw off another half-speed juggernaut of towering riffs, staggering battery, and stoned, ocean-deep vocals. As the bleary, red-eyed raga of opener “Where Death Meets the Sea” crawls into the satanically melodic megalith “Dear Lucifer,” and the Hammer Horror organ peal of the title track eventually yields to epically detuned closer “At Niceae,” Monolord deliver druggy euphoria and abject hopelessness in equal amounts—and at bottom speed.
