Legends of the Summer
“How can I pledge allegiance to the flag?/When they killing all our sons, all our dads,” Meek Mill says on “Stay Woke,” the final track of this four-song EP. His performance of this at the BET Awards marked the Philly rap star’s return to the public eye following a short stint in jail for a probation violation, an experience that awakened in him a responsibility to address justice reform. Aside from this mission, *Legends of the Summer* is a collection of moods: “Dangerous,” a Jeremih and PnB Rock collaboration built on a flirty guitar loop, is Meek as hip-hop lothario, while “1am,” a song that recalls the energy of Meek Mill classic “House Party,” sounds primed for speedboat racing. Then there\'s the thundering Swizz Beatz-produced “Millidelphia,” a declaration that Meek will remain a force in rap as long as he has access to a recording booth.
The Philadelphia rapper’s first project out of prison is a quick and powerful Meek sampler: the bustling street anthem, the croon-assisted sex jam, the tortured flashback.
The rapper bides his time until his next full-length while growing into his role as a spokesman against injustice
