The subtitle for this collection is \"Live & Rare Versions: 1996-2007.\" It was initially only available as a bonus CD to the book of lyrics *Nights of Passed Over*. True to form, Mark Kozelek reinterprets these songs with a wide berth. Acoustic and alone for the live versions of \"Michigan\" and \"Drop,\" he digs deep into the material\'s emotive nature. With just the wonder of his powerful voice, he transforms the songs into epic performances. \"Heron Blue,\" from the Sun Kil Moon album *April*, sounds more direct in demo form. \"Leo and Luna\" appeared on the compilation *See You on the Moon: Songs for Kids of All Ages*. The version of \"Duk Koo Kim\" is from a vinyl 10\" and not the one from *Ghosts of the Great Highway*. \"Carry Me Ohio,\" similarly, isn\'t the album version but rather an extended jam with fuzzed-out guitars guiding the performance. The \"Malmo Version\" of \"Cruiser\"—a song from Red House Painters\' final album, *Old Ramon*—is yet another revelation, transformed by a heavenly choir of background vocalists.
