There’s an undeniable laidback scrappiness coursing through McBriare DeMarco’s appealing first full-length record. But for all *2*’s sun-bleached guitars and gonzo flourishes—hushed, acoustic closer “Still Together” even ends with the unedited sound of DeMarco rousing his girlfriend—it still punches above its weight and 31 minute length melodically. “Dreaming” has an irresistible, hazy sweep and “Robson Girl” is a hypnotically jangly reminder that, when it comes to playing guitar, this slacker is no slouch.
On his second release of 2012, the young singer-songwriter writes about life-- both the heavy moments and the mundane ones-- with economy and newfound grace. He has a knack for building songs where the realness of his subject matter lies just below the surface.

A compellingly opaque listen which sees DeMarco on the precipice of discovering a truly immersive sound.
