Perfect View
Warm, lush textures are everywhere on Swedish producer Hannes Norrvide’s third album, like crocuses pushing through the ice in spring—a pleasant anomaly amongst coldwave\'s typical themes of isolation and despair. From the dancefloor crush of “Another Day” to the bubbly analog richness of “Kirsten” and the sampled speech that flows through “Barcelona,” the music highlights the tenderness of the lyrical themes—love, connection, and beauty—even if they\'re appropriately concealed in a snowbank of reverb.
On Perfect View, Swedish producer Hannes Norrvide returns with his third full length, and it’s warmer and more inviting than any of his previous work. The album is composed of largely instrumental pieces, focusing more on beats, samples and general ambiance than its predecessor, last year’s Growing Seeds. Tracks like “Breaking Silence” and “Barcelona” highlight this shift in direction and overall mood, while tracks such as “Another Day” and “Vibrant Brother” stay true to Norrvide’s signature form. Overall this album ventures more towards rave than no-wave.
The second album by Sweden's Lust for Youth has the same M.O. as his debut-- Casio keyboard melodies collide, drum machines thump, Hannes Norrvide hollers into the void-- but the cleaner, warmer production makes Perfect View a lusher, prettier listen.
Electronic producer Hannes Norrvide began his Lust for Youth project when he wanted to join a punk band but only had access to a cheap, often malfunctioning keyboard.
Perfect View is Swedish producer Hannes Norrvide’s second album as Lust for Youth, following hot on the heels of last year’s Growing Seeds. Actually, make that cold on the heels, for there’s little warmth to be found amidst this record’s bewitching beats and frosty synths, despite a definite dialling-down of its predecessor’s confrontational distortion.
