Corollaries
April 15, 2013 will see Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk – the pioneer of Continuous Piano Music – with his first release on UK label Erased Tapes. Entitled Corollaries, the album was recorded and produced by Peter Broderick with the additional help of Nils Frahm and Martyn Heyne. Erased Tapes founder Robert Raths knew it was time to share the great musical legacy of Melnyk, to which he simply responded: ‘Where were you guys when I was thirty?’ 'The fastest piano player in the world – a Rasputinesque new pin-up boy for the post-classical scene' – Uncut
Thoughtful, detailed but never precious, this album presents a pianist of remarkable talent and insight.
Complex, sparse and utterly beguiling, the new album by celebrated avant garde neo-classical composer Lubomyr Melnyk is a delight from start to finish. Melnyk's technique, influenced by and developed in response to the 1970s minimalist movement, is called Continuous Music – a sequence of delicate, tightly interlocking piano arpeggios, flowing and collapsing into each other with no pauses, create a subtle and moving tapestry of sound and texture.
