“The best ambient music is highly focused with heightened attention to detail and to the passing of time - qualities which, in turn, it nurtures in the listener.” The Yield EP from London based composer, guitarist and producer Leo Abrahams comprises an intimate and atmospheric collection of pieces, mostly improvised, with the guitar both in the foreground and providing the atmospheres. Some are chordal and melodic, others are abstracted and drone-based. Together they make for an immersive and meditative listening experience. The chordal pieces have a pianistic quality - Leo wanted a minimalism and sense of poise in the attack of each note, and he spent quite a bit of time experimenting with different recording techniques to convey that. The more ambient pieces grew out of his last record, 'Scene Memory II’, in that they started out as solo guitar improvisations; but whereas that record was purist in maintaining the performances, here he allowed some overdubbing and extrapolation.
