Baroque Music
Christina Pluhar takes us on a tour of sacred music from the 17th century in the company of two of the loveliest voices of our time—those of the soprano Céline Scheen and the countertenor Philippe Jaroussky. They blend perfectly and illuminate this program of “heavenly music” with singing of true poise. Alongside the well-known J.S. and J.C. Bach, plus Heinrich Schütz, we encounter a group of lesser masters whose fervent music speaks directly to the heart. Christian Ritter’s “O amantissime sponse,” one of the most sensual sacred pieces imaginable, is enchantingly sung here.
