Ranging from banging to introspective, this record shows the artist at her most versatile yet, pairing her signature bone-dry analogue output with emotive atmospherics and playful vibrancy. Starting out deep, A1 contrasts uptempo acid licks with grand layers of strings, followed by the slowly building, equally vibey A2. Panoramic washes create an ambience of space, the elastic kick steadily holding down the floor until a late swash of percussion seals the deal. The flip carries one of Starlight’s most abrasive moments, featuring rave-style sirens right out the gate, treated to some crazy live filtering with epic acidic effects. Mysterious grooves on the last track, its offbeat synth swaying an electric tension, restrained yet powerful.
