L Devine’s Apple Music Home Session features hope, heartbreak, and an homage to two British LGTBQ+ legends. You’ll find the first of those things on “Die on the Dancefloor,” taken from 2021 EP *Near Life Experience Part Two* and here given an electronic-guitar rework. “I worked on ‘Die on the Dancefloor’ during lockdown, so along with the other new songs on *Near Life Experience*, it was pretty much my soundtrack to the whole pandemic,” the singer and songwriter born Olivia Devine tells Apple Music. “It kept me longing and hopeful for the future, which is funny because it’s about something we weren’t allowed to do when we all had to stay home: be on a dance floor.” Alongside it, Devine dials the sad-banger energy of breakup anthem “Priorities” right back to make you, as she puts it, “tune in to the story.” As for that tribute to her idols, hear it in Devine’s inspired mash-up of Wham!’s “Everything She Wants” and Years & Years’ 2015 track “Desire.” “I look up to both George Michael and Olly Alexander so much, not only as musicians, but as people who were representing and shaping the queer community in the music industry when I was growing up,” says Devine. “I wanted to pay homage to two of my favorite LGBTQ+ songwriters.”
