A longtime hip-hop producer from California, KutMasta Kurt has left his indelible sonic imprint on countless indie-rap classics and is best known for his work with bugout specialists Kool Keith and Motion Man. He\'s also responsible for Dilated People\'s breakout single, \"Work the Angles,\" and has crafted tracks for everyone from Rasco and Planet Asia to Chino XL and Linkin Park. On the limited-run 2010 release *Funky Redneck Visits Nippon*, he lets the beats speak for themselves, with a rhyme-free instrumental album inspired by his travels in Japan. As always, his ultra-punchy drums are in full effect, as well as a barrage of creatively tweaked samples, snippets, and loops. Unlike the spacier soundscapes of old DJ Shadow or Nobody, these are mostly hard-knocking affairs, perfect for aspiring emcees to test their mettle over. Though relatively short, this 10-track collection bangs from beginning to end. Check out \"Horny in Harajuku,\" \"Prefecture Piano,\" \"At the Love Hotel,\" and \"Sabo Noodle Western.\"
