Play Hard
If Krewella’s first EP, *Play Hard*, is any indication, a new era of dance music has arrived. The Chicago trio takes elements of mainstream progressive house and adds striking dubstep breakdowns, seamlessly switching between these elements throughout the album. In addition to Rain Man’s unique productions, all songs are accompanied by the melodic vocals of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf. The dubstep-heavy tracks “Play Hard” and “Killin\' It” voice youth culture’s desire for liberation: the lyrics speak of letting loose, living with no regrets, and leaving issues behind. Traditional progressive house shines through on the mainstream tracks “Alive” and “One Minute” while simultaneously showcasing the sisters\' singing talents. Leading the charge for an increasingly popular style of production, the trio has collaborated with similar groups Adventure Club and Pegboard Nerds.
