Hotel Koko is Kornél Kovács’ third album, released on October 21 via the producer’s home label Studio Barnhus. Kornél’s boundless attitude to style shines through in Hotel Koko — his broad tastes refined into a genre-hopping journey that’s refreshingly light on its feet. While Kornél’s previous records are deeply introspective, with Hotel Koko he has shifted focus away from himself and created a dichotomy of some of his most accessible and most adventurous compositions to date — further blurring the diminishing line between pop and dance music. Each track on the record subsequently represents a door within the fictional Hotel Koko and the myriad things that could happen behind them. Kornél once again teamed up with his trusted studio engineer Matt Karmil to record the album and also enlisted the melodic enhancement of jazz musician Niclas Skagstedt across some of its tracks. The diverse spread of guest collaborators include supernova singer/producer Aluna, Costa Rican pop star MishCatt and fellow Studio Barnhus affiliate Kamohelo of “techno boy band” Off The Meds. The album’s visual direction was developed by Stockholm/Berlin-based creative agency Nuda. The artwork is comprised by a painting by Michael Fink, illustrations by Lulu Lin and graphic design by Gustav Skoogh, with single covers and videos by Nuda.
