Cusp
Klo is the musical collaboration of Melbourne cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul. The duo’s pulsating soundscapes come from two worlds – Lam’s jack-of-all-trades engineering and production paired with Chloe’s contrasting, enchanting siren-like vocals and lyrics. The output from the duo is rich in texture whilst retaining a measured pop sensibility. Klo’s music glows and grows as their friendship does within this project. Collaborating as Klo was the catalyst for these family members to work together - which makes for a sound that matches - progressive and constantly evolving. The peaks and troughs of Klo’s songs are held up by dancefloor-destined production and a sharp momentum. The hardware of Klo is percussive and structured, but never feels heartless. Klo’s music is already being praised by critics and peers – their icebreaking first single ‘Make Me Wonder’ was picked up by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and shared across blogs with overwhelmingly positive reviews worldwide. Follow up single ‘False Calls’ was premiered on triple j’s 2014 program by Richard Kingsmill, which was another win for a band whose star is steady on the rise. The next output from Klo will be new single ‘Under Lie’ from the forthcoming debut EP Cusp. ‘Under Lie’ is streamlined but packed with rhythm - wearing a cloak of lush and beat-heavy production which works to smuggle transcendent lyrical melancholy. As the song suggests -“Please don’t deny, it plays on your mind”
