Home Sweet Home
Kano named his debut for his East London roots, but it reaches beyond the sounds of the Big Smoke. “Typical Me” and “Mic Check 1-2” are raw grime tracks that bring his tough vocals to the fore, while he plays up the production elsewhere: “Meanwhile” exudes a salsa vibe and “9 to 5” runs on flurries of piano. “Reload It” follows a breakbeat bent by Diplo, “Ghetto Kid” is all filthy static, and “I Don’t Know Why” samples Black Sabbath. A boundary-breaking record from start to finish.
