Soul Eyes

Fragrant jazz-soul fusion ornaments this recording from Prince protégé Kandace Springs. The pianist and songwriter has a rich, luxuriant voice reminiscent of the 20th century’s finest female vocalists. It’s not surprising then that she caught the eye of Minneapolis’ beloved son, who took her under his wing and ushered in the dawn of her career. She has already drawn strong comparisons to Lauryn Hill, and while there’s a clear through line, Springs’ music walks a more mellow, traditional path.
