"Much has been made lately of the idea that jazz has to somehow eschew key elements of its identity to mature and advance itself. Cobb and crew create the kind of timeless and rewarding jazz that satisfies on so many levels and yet is accessible enough for even the most neophyte listeners. If that isn't advancing the art form, then I don't know what is." -- C. Andrew Hovan, All About Jazz, 11 July 2014 "Cobb is a master with sticks and brushes, low-key but fully in control, setting tempo and rhythm. Mehldau is right in the groove as is Webber, who is a first call bassist all the way, even in the Big Apple. But it is Peter Bernstein is the glue that holds the group together." -- John Sunier, Audiophile Audition, 8 June 2014 "But here’s a quartet with the old drum master and three young musicians who revere his history with Miles Davis and in that great quartet with Wes Montgomery and Wynton Kelly...This is a master of his instrument with players he’s having a grand time with taking a role both prominent and creative as can be, without overwhelming anyone. Great multigenerational jazz. -- Jeff Simon, The Buffalo News, 5 June 2014 Legendary jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb' THE ORIGINAL MOB features three former students and longtime bandmates who have all become major artists themselves. Brad Mehldau, Peter Bernstein, and John Webber were just getting their own careers started when they approached their teacher, Mr. Cobb, about working together as a quartet. It wasn't a hard sell, as Jimmy knew from experience that they were special talents. Soon after, they got some gigs as Jimmy Cobb’s Mob and the rest is history. THE ORIGINAL MOB is a swinging affair that includes two of Jimmy’s original compositions, and one each by Brad, Peter, and John. Cobb says, “it just sounds like us...like when we first started to play together years ago, but I remember like it was yesterday. I always enjoyed the way we played together.”
